Neighbors gathering peacefully in Sarasota at golden hour, holding signs for peace, love, unity, and democracy

Sarasota · Florida

Peaceful voices, together.

A new local Meetup for people who want to talk, listen, and practice non-violent protest in the Sarasota area. Welcome. Namaste.

About the group

We meet to discuss peaceful protesting — locally, kindly, online or in person.

This is a brand-new Meetup group in Sarasota. We started it so neighbors who care about showing up peacefully can find each other, share ideas, and plan actions that stay grounded in respect.

No shouting over one another. No requirement that you already have a sign or a slogan. Just a place to begin: What does peaceful protest look like here? What would help people feel safe showing up?

We are going to meet and peacefully protest. Namaste.

That is the whole invitation, in the group’s own words. Everything else we build together — starting with our first conversation.

Hello. This is our first meetup. Welcome. Namaste. We are going to meet to discuss peaceful protesting in the local Sarasota area — what we care about, how we want to show up, and what a first public action might look like.

How we show up

A few starting principles

These are a draft for the first conversation — not a manifesto. The group can refine them together.

Non-violence first

We do not threaten, intimidate, or destroy. Signs, songs, presence, and conversation are the tools.

Respect the room

Listen as much as you speak. Disagree without humiliation. Everyone here is a neighbor.

Keep it local

We focus on Sarasota and the surrounding community — what we can actually do here, together.

Stay lawful

Permits, sidewalks, and public spaces. We plan so people can participate without putting themselves at unnecessary risk.

Welcome newcomers

First time holding a sign? Perfect. Curiosity is enough. No loyalty tests.

Leave it better

We pick up after ourselves, thank hosts, and treat bystanders as part of the community we hope to reach.
